Head Coach, Midland University Men's Lacrosse
Coach Westfall is back with True Nebraska as Program Director after coaching the team from 2015-17. Currently, he is the Head Coach of the Midland University Men's Lacrosse (NAIA) program in Fremont, Nebraska, set to begin play in the Spring of 2020.
Prior to his position at Midland, Westfall was the Defensive Coordinator at Cornell College (NCAA D-III) in Mount Vernon, Iowa. Under Westfall, the Rams set a program record in goals allowed per game (7.6) lowering the previous season average by nearly four goals per game. The Rams defense also set a record in man-down percentage, only allowing opponents to score nine man-up goals on 40 opportunities (77.5%). The Rams stout defense had six games in which they held opponents to four goals or less including a shutout against Concordia Chicago.
Westfall, a native of Lincoln, Nebraska, has been involved with high school lacrosse in Nebraska since 2008 when he was a player on the first high school program in the city. He was a starting defenseman for Lincoln's 2011 state championship squad and then served as an assistant coach on the state title team in 2012 and 2013.
After three years as an assistant with Lincoln, Westfall took over as the team's head coach from 2015-17 compiling a 38-14 record over three seasons. His 2016 team finished as state runner-up, and the 2015 & 2017 squads both reached the state semifinals.
In 2017, Westfall was recognized with the Hudl Top 100 National Award for his contributions to the sport of lacrosse.
Westfall graduated from Nebraska Wesleyan University, earning a bachelor's degree studying Sport Management. He played football for four year for the Prairie Wolves and was a three-year starter on NWU's offensive line.

Tyson is a recent graduate of the University of Dubuque (Dubuque, Iowa) as a lacrosse player earning his degree in Computer Graphics & Interactive Media. Svoboda joins the True Nebraska coaching staff following a four-year playing career at the University of Dubuque (Iowa) and is the current all-time leader in career points (101), goals (71),games started (54) and games played (54). He was a three-time captain and was named the team offensive MVP in 2016. He was the first team recipient of the Shield & Spear Award and was also the FCA lacrosse representative from 2015 to 2017.
Svoboda has a passion for lacrosse and is working to grow the game here in the Midwest. He started playing in middle school, played on the Nebraska Buddha Ballers club program and was a two-time captain and two-time All State midfielder in 2012 and 2013 for Millard West. Svoboda played midfield at Millard West High School and converted attackman during his time at Dubuque. He was one of two original players that stuck with the program from its fist NCAA season and helped the program grow to what it is today. While at Dubuque, he was a three time captain and the schools all time leader in goals and points. We are excited to have Tyson on board for his first season with True Nebraska.
